Stud News:
Another busy spring with the safe arrival of five foals. Teal foaled first, closely followed within a few days by Tilliwhille. Both foals are by Dunedin Marksman - Teal has a filly, Tanera and Tilli a colt, Troich Dubh. Both look very promising as future performance ponies having been specifically bred to combine the Trailtrow and Dunedin lines. Their can't be any other Highland foals to have three "aunts" competing at HOYS in the same year ('06) - Trailtrow Taransay (full sister to Tilli), Dunedin May Rose and Dunedin Megan (both full sisters to Marksman)!
Our part-bred foal arrived next to Ealasaid. Unfortunately not coloured, the sire was Country Marksman a coloured Irish Draught X Thoroughbred - but a stunning filly nonetheless. She should make a lovely show/working hunter pony. We have named her Miss Dynamite as she is very lively.
Our two foals by our stallion Rummlegairie arrived in June, both fillies out of Texa and Gamhna of Carrick. Texa Beag is a full sister to Taransay and is Texa (Snr)'s first filly in ten years. We hope she will be as successful as her big sister! Texa is now 23 and she is now retired from further breeding. Gamhna's filly is very compact with a beautiful head and is exceptionally friendly. She has been sold to Shona McBean and they have named her Gair Spring.
Tilliwhillie and her daughter Teaninich have been covered this year by Dunedin Marksman and are due at the end of May 2007. Gamhna is having a rest year and Teal and Ghlinne will commence their ridden careers in the spring.
Showing Report:
We have had another very successful show season. Our most exciting day was at the Highland Pony Society Breed Show. Our first class was the Under-14hh Open Ridden, which Taransay won. We were then delighted when she went on to win the Open Ridden Championship, qualifying for Olympia. We are so pleased to have the chance to go again. Taransay then went on to be Supreme Ridden Champion and win an HPS gold medal. Meanwhile Tarskavaig was also having a successful day. He was second in the Picton Novice Ridden class, first in the Junior Ridden class and first in the Nursery Novice Working Hunter pony. These placings meant that he was Overall Performance Champion at the show and also won an HPS gold medal. Between them they brought home seven trophies!
The season finished with Taransay competing at HOYS in October and Olympia at Christmas, she went very well on both occasions and we were very pleased with her. She is now retired and will be put in foal this spring.
